To be truly well means being healthy in mind, body and spirit. These three are intertwined in us similar to the way the Three Persons of God are intertwined in the Trinity. Three parts of one being all working together in balance and in harmony. This page is where you will find the things that will help to strengthen your spirit.
This is an audio file from an event my local clergy group hosted on October 9th on Faith and Wellness. The speaker is Jose Garmendia, MD. Dr. Garmendia attended the University of South Florida College of Medicine and served his intenship and residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine with a sub-specialty in Geriatric Medicine. He currently serves as Chief of Internal Medicine at St. Vincent's Medical Center in Jacksonville, Florida. It was very well received by the older adults in attendance and along with some wonderful anecdotal stories he spoke about the effect faith and spirituality has on the well being of his patients and how his personal faith affects his practice of medicine. I hope you enjoy the talk and find something in it that lifts your spirit and touches your soul. Comments and questions can be sent to me at Betsy@FeedinMama.com.
Update: Re-posted as an mp3 file. Thanks Chuck for the assistance! Betsy
Do you sometimes avoid calling or visiting friends in difficult circumstances because you are afraid you won't know what to say or do? This book is a wonderful guide to help you learn to express your love and concern as a fellow child of God. People don't expect us to be perfect, they just want to know that we care and that God loves them.
We know that we are called to pray constantly but just how is that done? This is a beautiful road map for helping to make prayer as natural to us as breathing.
This is probably one of the most powerful books I have ever read on the subject of true and lasting happiness. I can testify that it has had an immense and positive impact on my own mental health. Can't reccommend it highly enough - Betsy.
(We will be wrapping up 2008 and beginning 2009 on this theme based on Wesley's Rules at Avondale UMC. Everything we say and do should be based first on these three simple rules: Do no harm, Do good, Stay in love with God. They are indeed simple but no one said they are easy. Yet learning to use these three as our home base builds a Rock solid foundation for all the rest.)
*Inspirational Quotes by Theodore Roosevelt:
“I care not what others think of what I do, but I care very much about what I think of what I do! That is character!”
“It is hard to fail, but it is worse never to have tried to succeed.”
“The only man who never makes a mistake is the man who never does anything."
“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure…than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.”
